2026 Artist Statement

My practice explores the relationships and interactions that emerge between matter, movement, and the environment. Rather than presenting my work as a self-contained, completed form, I am interested in constructing environments in which different elements continuously affect one another and undergo change. Within my work, matter, mechanical devices, space, and the viewer do not exist independently. Through chance and temporality, they continuously enter into relationships and generate changes, producing a phenomenon as a whole.

These environments operate through subtle movements and slow transformations. The rising of air bubbles, the flow of liquid, the dispersal of mist, and the filling of space with faint sounds are not staged to reproduce a particular scene. Instead, they reveal the process through which different elements come into relation with one another. Through the accumulation of change and time, I create environments that appear to move and respond on their own.

I present uncontrolled movement emerging within controlled environments. Most of the mechanical devices used in my work are designed and built by myself. However, my interest lies not in technical precision or sophisticated control, but in creating structures that allow for small errors, irregularities, and unpredictable responses from materials. The machine functions as one element that establishes the conditions through which matter and movement can form new relationships.

The slow movements and subtle changes within my work invite viewers to become aware of their own senses and of their surrounding environment. By creating environments in which humans, matter, mechanical devices, and space continuously affect each other, I seek to explore how sensation is produced and transformed, and what new relationships become visible through this process.
