People assign high value on something’s colour and pattern. In the case of animals, their colour and pattern increase the value immensely (from a human perspective). In the Oriental, white coloured animals, which are mutant, such as white snakes, white deers and white elephants are regarded as spiritual beings. In addition, some small type pets like reptiles, amphibians and birds are improved to popular coloured species and distributed on the market. This kind of reproduction is considerably against nature.
The phenomenon of valuing with colours can be easily seen in a society and trading sneakers is a typical example. These days, popular limited sneakers are re-saled at a high price and colours and patterns are critical causes of this. These are actually the same model so its shape and use are equal. Only colours and patterns control the value of them. Some are traded at lower price than its original price because of its unpopular colours and some are traded about hundreds times higher price. Due to this phenomenon, the value of particular sneakers has become extremely high so some people cannot use them for their original purpose. They put them which are made for wear into display cases and do not wear them and even hold exhibitions.
These two cases have something in common in that people are too immersed in the externalities and cannot recognize its essence. To represent this, I used elements of sneakers as an object. I used only shoelaces and a shoebox and excluded the body of the sneakers that have high value due to its colour and pattern. Then, I made a bundle of shoelaces float on air by using a magnet which rejects gravity to represent rejecting nature.
Colours are bound to stand out because it is one of the most simple externalities. Accordingly, this can be high-valued easily but it is not a pleasant phenomenon that wields the capital without recognizing the essence.
